Just back from a few days birding in the Soutpansberg, where we had a day with local guide Samson Mulaudzi. Fantastic trip with 6 lifers sighted. Samson has incredible knowledge of his patch. One particular incident was when we were driving to a new location when Samson heard parrots. This despite there being engine and road noise from the car. We stopped the car and got out and sure enough, at least 100m away were Grey-headed Parrots. How he heard them at that distance over the car noise, I will never know!
In total we saw 121 bird species with the lifers being; Grey-headed Parrot, African Pygmy Goose, Allen’s Gallinule, Little Rush Warbler, Brown-backed Honeybird and (one we found ourselves) African Wood Owl.
